VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

...available in a variety of interests. Nearly 3,000 seniors give approximately a quarter of a million volunteer hours of service including:

Retired Senior Citizens Volunteer Program (RSVP)

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program provides opportunities for adults 55 and older to utilize their skills and experience at public or private non-profit organizations in Davidson and Williamson counties. More than 600 volunteers serve over 70,000 hours each year.

Friends Learning In Pairs (FLIP)

The Friends Learning In Pairs program trains and places senior volunteers in public elementary schools to serve as reading tutors/mentors to children in grades K-4 who are at risk of academic failure. More than, 150 volunteers assist more than 600 children each school year.

Foster Grandparents

Provide volunteer hours of one-on-one love and positive interaction between volunteers serving in the Foster Grandparent program and approximately 1,000children with special needs.



LIVING AT HOME


Do you or someone you care about need information, referral, consultation, or connection to community programs and services? Living at Home Care Management visits frail, homebound seniors in their homes to determine their needs and help to locate services. In-home notary services are also available. For information, call 860-7180 (Madison Station Senior Center) in the Madison and Northeast area; 743-3418 (Senior Citizens, Inc.) for the fairgrounds area; 255-0554 ext. 240 (Red Shield Family Initiative) for the Southwest area of East Nashville (Main Street to Trinity Lane and Dickerson Road to Gallatin Road); 743-3415 (Senior Citizens, Inc.) or 352-3087 (Catholic Charities) for other areas of Davidson County; and 376-0102 (The Martin Center) in Williamson County. The United Ways of Metropolitan Nashville and Williamson County, the Memorial Foundation, and the West End Home Foundation provide funding for this program.

Have you or someone you know been victimized by elder abuse, financial exploitation, fraud, violence, or any crime? Victory Over Crime offers support, case management, legal system advocacy, homemaker services, counseling support, referral to community services, and volunteer services. For further information regarding eligibility or to volunteer to assist participants, call 743-3417. This program receives support from the Office of Criminal Justice Programs, Victims of Crime Act.

Are you concerned about someone who is incapable of making decisions on his/her own? Conservatorship services of Senior Citizens, Inc. provides care of person and/or property for individuals that the court deems appropriate for services and when no one else is able to assist. For more information, call 743-3414.

Do you need some help in your role as a caregiver or some friendly support to help you remain living independently? The Respite Caregivers and Senior Companions program provides trained volunteers who give weekly in-home companionship so that caregivers can have short periods of time for rest and renewal and so that those who live alone can make a friend. For more information or to volunteer, call 743-3421. The Corporation for National Service provides support for this program. Financial assistance is available for eligible program volunteers.

Do you or someone you know have difficulty preparing meals? Meals on Wheels provides hot, nutritious weekday, weekend and holiday (Thanksgiving and Christmas) lunches for homebound individuals. Meals can be provided on a short-term or long-term basis. This is one of ten programs providing meals in Davidson County. For more information regarding participation or to become a volunteer deliverer, call 463-2264.

Do you or a loved one need a caring, safe environment, where social interaction, exercise, and other engaging activities are provided? Adult Day Services provides these activities, as well as nutritional meals, transportation and social services as needed. Caregivers receive support and encouragement and are assured that their loved one is comfortable and safe during the day. For more information, please call 463-2266. Many services are free or offered at a reasonable cost. Any fees will be discussed with you prior to service delivery.
